I hope you manage to make the iron tonic and that it helps you!

I don't think the orange peel would contain enough Vitamin C to help absorption of the iron, but adding dried rosehips to the soup would increase the vitamin C content dramatically which would be affected by the heat of cooking. Probably a simple thing to do would be to have a glass of orange juice with the soup and don't have a cup of tea for a couple of hours.Sarah Headhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08975928642943693605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3765060233389739578.post-43227298024763013762009-03-25T04:28:00.000-07:002009-03-25T04:28:00.000-07:00I always look forward to making nettle soup in the...I always look forward to making nettle soup in the spring, and its great to have a new recipe to try -I love the sound of adding orange, does this help the body absorb the iron from the nettles?

Interested in the iron tonic, too, as I was given horrible iron tablets by the hospital following my caesarean section - they made me feel SO sick I stopped taking them and have been looking about for natural sources which are a little gentler on the system!

Thanks for a great post :-)fionahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02981884152529715475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3765060233389739578.post-3962450501560541602009-03-20T03:39:00.000-07:002009-03-20T03:39:00.000-07:00Hi RowanI suspect if you have a good look in your ...Hi Rowan

I suspect if you have a good look in your grass verges you will find mugwort coming up in the next month. I'm going to be trying to eradicate it from my top Sanctuary herb bed in the next few weeks as it tends to take over everywhere and is growing happily outside where it was first planted. If you ever find yourself in the Cotswolds, you could have as much mugwort as you'd like!Sarah Headhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08975928642943693605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3765060233389739578.post-53405884750471420592009-03-17T13:50:00.000-07:002009-03-17T13:50:00.000-07:00The soup sounds good, think I shall give it a try,...The soup sounds good, think I shall give it a try, need to look for some nettles first though, everything is very late here. I like the sound of the tonic wines - mostly because they are very spicy I think. Would need to buy mugwort to try yours.Rowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13679130612798888266noreply@blogger.com
